Privacy Policy

Sweep is published by Hugo Software. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does with data. The short version: nothing you scan leaves your phone.
What Sweep does
Sweep is a scanning aid. During a sweep session it listens to Bluetooth Low Energy advertisements around you and scans your local Wi-Fi network for devices, then shows you a report of what it observed.
What the app reads
While a sweep is running, Sweep reads:
- Bluetooth advertisements — the broadcast address, any broadcast name, signal strength, and the time each broadcast was heard. These are public signals that nearby devices transmit continuously.
- Local network information — IP addresses on your own subnet, hostnames and service names that devices announce over SSDP/UPnP and mDNS, which common TCP ports answer, and MAC addresses in the rare cases the operating system still exposes them.
What happens to it
This information is held in your phone's memory for the length of the sweep and used only to build the report you see on screen. It is not uploaded, not stored on any server, and not shared with anyone. When you leave the report or close the app, it is gone.
Sweep contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no crash-reporting SDK. There is no account system: no sign-up, no login, no profile.
The only thing Sweep saves on your device is a small flag recording whether you have bought the one-time report unlock.
Location
Sweep does not collect your location. The Bluetooth scanning permission is declared with Android's neverForLocation flag, which tells the system that this app must not use Bluetooth signals to derive location — and we do not.
On Android 11 and older, the operating system refuses to return Bluetooth scan results unless a location permission is present. On those older versions only, the app declares the legacy location permission for that technical reason. Even there, Sweep does not read, store or transmit your location.
Internet access
Sweep requests internet access because scanning your local network means opening connections to addresses on your own subnet and sending discovery messages on your local network. The app itself sends no data to any remote server.
Purchases
The optional one-time report unlock is processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment; we never see your name, card details or address. We receive only the aggregate purchase records Google provides to developers. Google's handling of that transaction is covered by Google's own privacy policy.
Children
Sweep is not directed at children.
Your rights
Because Sweep stores no personal data on any server, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. Removing the app removes the only thing stored — the local purchase flag. See our data removal page for details.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
